Chai Wan Mei Festival
Chai Wan Mei was an annual 3-day festival promoting art and design by local makers based in the industrial neighborhood of Chai Wan in Hong Kong during the world’s leading art show Art Basel. Community made up of: artists, photographers, fashion designers, interior designers, architects, ceramicists, dancers, art dealers, book publishers.
I managed two editions of the festival. My team and I contacted participants to collect and edit all program submissions, oversaw the graphic design for the printed map and website, and the overall smooth running of the public event. The festival attracted 4000+ visitors and received the Ming Pao Local Heroes award. We also secured US$45,000 in sponsorship, 35 volunteers to support the event production, and shuttle buses to bring fair visitors from Art Basel to Chai Wan.
The program featured 40+ participants. Highlights include: 1 new site-specific performance by artist Ryan McNamara commissioned by Yana Peel. Also Maleonn’s Studio Mobile a traveling pop-up photo studio with retro Chinese sets, costumes, props. The event was co-organized by 3 local art galleries: Platform China, 10 Chancery Lane, and Asia One.
